An AAC visual and audio communication application for the iPhone and iPad.

Accessible Apps: Voice4u for Autistic Communication

Screenshot from Voice4u application. It shows the workd "eat" above a cartoon drawing of a child sitting in front of a plate of food and holding a fork near the mouth.

I have reported on several applications concerning various AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) packages for the iPhone or iPad. However the Voice4u app by Spectrum Visions caught my eye.

Voice4u is designed to help autistic youth with communication. The bright color resolution can assist with keeping the attention of the autistic user and voice playback is set-up for nine separate categories that cover many descriptive communication needs.

The Voice4u application graphically standouts out compared to it's competitors with very interesting artwork to assist the user in expressing one's self. There are 150 pre-loaded icons that help express feelings, wants, greetings, etc. There is also an option for the user to customize this app by adding your own icons and categories. Voice4u can also be set up for Japanese with the Voice4u JP version. Voice4u is priced at $29.99 from iTunes and is compatible with iPod Touch, iPad and iPhone OS 3.1.3 or later.
