Age groups and texting

Of about 1400 people who responded to our Survey of User Needs so far, text messaging is considered among the most important wireless functions by 21% of people over 65, and by twice as many (42%) of those 45-64.

This contrasts sharply with an August 1 article in the Washington Post that noted only about 6% of seniors have sent a text message, compared with 75% of of consumers 18-29:

How much of your wireless communication is by text messaging: none? half? more?

AGE 52 found a niche for me & texting

I use txt msging in my business to "page" a field employee without having to fully disrupt him/her while they are e.g. meeting with a customer. I also have a 20 year old and if I have news for her or vice versa we can get that expressed without using valuable prime time minutes. Text messaging & email represent 80% plus of my Blackberry usage. I use a "standard" Blackberry, one with a small but full keyboard (QWERTY). If I had to use ABC on one key DEF on another key, my usage of these features would drop to nil.
