Cool tech: Blaupunkt TravelPilot's camera based, heads-up display for car

New wireless technology developed for the mainstream market often holds potential benefits for people with disabilities. Such seems to be true of Blaupunkt's new TravelPilot 500 and 700 heads-up information display system for automobiles. According to GPS Magazine, the camera-based system has a "built-in camera that takes live video of the road, and overlays GPS navigation instructions, creating a heads-up display-like experience."

Additionally, the system's camera provides traffic sign recognition and the ability to automatically detect speed limit signs. Furthermore, the system has voice recognition for hands-free control.

These features could make the TravelPilot an important driving aid for elders and other people with slightly diminished vision and cognitive function.
