Prices of "netbooks" coming down

Posted by jmorris at June 04. 2008

CNet News has a news item about the debut this week of the Asus Eee PC 1000, a small mobile computer (referred to as a "netbook") with a 10-inch screen, 40GB solid state drive, and Windows XP. Pricing has been rumored at between $600 and $700.

This compares to other small computers (commonly labeled "subnotebooks") like the 11-inch Lenovo IdeaPad that range in price from $1500 to $3000.

The article also reviews the evolution of "netbooks" and "subnotebooks", and seems to conclude that the distinction will go away as the new crop of netbooks become better, but maintain the same low price point.
