iPhone accessibility and software applications
Up to Handset Design
We recently received feedback about our survey on accessible iPhone applications from a couple of organizations dedicated to adocacy for people with visual and hearing impairment.
Our survey is aimed at trying to discover and document applications that might either make the iPhone more accessible or that might help people with disabilities perform other activities more easily.
Some initial feedback from people with hearing impairment is that the iPhone is not hearing aid compatible, that it causes too much buzzing. And, a few people in the blind community have dismissed the iPhone as simply not accessible.
We welcome your views on this. Is the iPhone just not accessible to whole groups of people with impairment? Or, have you found any apps that either make it accessible or help you perform other activities more effectively?
I'm no iPhone user, but I bet that non-verbal users would find this 99-cent application as useful as world travelers do: http://iphone.blogvasion.com/2009/01/travelling-made-easy-with-icoon.html
