In a recent focus group of wireless customers with disabilities, we talked about how popular text messaging has become.  Several participants shared how they use it, including keeping up with their kids, who prefer texting over voice.  Others talked about their concerns over the cost of texting vs. voice communication.

Texting may have become more popular, but a recent report by Ipsos MediaCT indicates that a majority in the US still do not use text messaging.

According to the short piece in the New York Times covering the report, "In the United States, for example, 82 percent of cellphone owners said that they never used text messaging, 3 percent said that they used it monthly or less, and 15 percent said that they used it every week or even more. 'If they’re using it, they’re using it frequently,' said Donna Wallace, a vice president at Ipsos."
