Sprint introduces Ready Now

Learn your new phone before you leave the store.

On September 9, Sprint announced Ready Now.  Through this new service, trained retail associates will provide customers with one-on-one help in setting up, personalizing, and learning about all the features and functions of their new devices - before they leave the store.

Since the introduction on September 9 of Sprint's "ReadyNow" program (http://readynow.sprint.com/?id9=vanity:readynow) several blogs have addressed the need for services like this. According to an Opinion Research survey, a primary reason for smartphone return rates over 20% is not understanding how to set up the product in the first place.

Our own Survey of User Needs reflect frustration with the increasing complexity of wireless products:

"I have trouble remembering how to use the different functions of my cell phone."
"I have confusion in setting up and maintaining options and service."
"I don't have the memory to remember the ‘tricks’."

A recent study by Mformation found that users of popular mobile applications like email, web browsing, and instant messaging still find them hard to set up and use. Many have simply given up. This study points out that difficulty in use impacts the bottom line:
