Visual voicemail becomes more common

Verizon is the latest carrier to offer visual voicemail - a voicemail service that offers a visual display of voicemail messages on your wireless device, thereby allowing users to listen to their messages in the order of their choice, much like selecting an email to view.

Regular voicemail usually requires calling the voicemail system and then having to hear each voicemail in the order in which they were recorded. This can be time consuming and mentally taxing.

According to the Wikipedia entry on visual voicemail: "[Visual voicemail] complements the basic voicemail to e-mail delivery which is becoming ubiquitous in that it allows better management of voicemail messages without clogging up the user's inbox."
