Nielsen research: Two-thirds of iPhone users download software

Nielsen, the media research company, recently issued a press release (and report) that says that 66% of iPhone users download and install software applications from the internet to their iPhones.

For more information on the Nielsen data, see: http://www.fiercewireless.com/press-releases/nielsen-3-6-million-iphone-users-13-and-other-iphone-insights?utm_medium=nl&utm_source=internal&cmp-id=EMC-NL-FMC&dest=FW

This is not a surprise, as it has been widely understood that tens of millions of software applications have been downloaded from Apple's iStore. Still, the figure is impressive, suggesting that a substantial majority of iPhone owners have continued to customize their (and presumably) add to the features and functions of their devices after their original purchase.

The iPhone has drawn considerable interest by both users and software developers as a platform for extending the capabilities of mobile devices. Yet, it is unclear how much of this innovation has been directed toward:

- making iPhone's more accessible to people with disabilities

- creating new software applications designed specifically to expand the range of functionality of people with disabilities

Please let us know if you have downloaded any iPhone applications that make the device easier to use or that extend your range of functionality. Thanks.
