Wireless captioning service: another option for the hearing impaired

I received the following email the other day from WirelessCaption.com, a vendor of a wireless captioning service for people who have experienced hearing loss. This seems like another good option for wireless communication for people with hearing loss.

More options seems like a good thing. Still, the wide availability of text messaging and email on mobile devices would seem to pose stiff competition in the marketplace for captioning types of services.

Has anyone among our readers tried this service? If so, please let us know how you liked it.

To Whom It May Concern:

The technology actual exists now to give the hearing impaired community a cell phone solution all in one handset alone.  There is no need to carry two handsets, nor is it necessary to be tech savvy in the least bit.  The hearing impaired community could carry a single handset like anyone else with either a blue tooth headset or hands-free kit that will allow them to hear what the other party is saying, and simultaneously receive what the other party is saying to them as captioning across the screen of their mobile device.  In turn they can use their own voice to respond to the other caller.  The user can make or receive calls with their cell phone like anyone else and the captioning service activity is virtually transparent to both parties.  The hearing impaired does not need to do anything special or unique to activate and use this service.

I welcome the opportunity to talk with you about this ground breaking technology and service in much greater detail at any time. Please feel free to review our website below.  This technology is proven and operational in Korea, and the proof of concept testing has been completed here in the states with one of the major CDMA carriers.  All we are waiting on now is completion of the approval process to commercialize this service.  Once we get that approval,  this service could be easily operational in 2009.

Please call me at your earliest convenience so we can discuss this further.  Thank you.

Sincerely,

XXX
